Table of Contents

1. City Spotlight: trends across fashion capitals

How are the main trends from fashion weeks distributed in the different fashion capitals? What stands out as the macro trends in New York, London, Paris and Milan? Let's look at the bigger picture of what emerged from these collections. The FW '24 Women's Fashion Weeks report seeks to answer this question and in this free version you can deep dive into the most growing print: Stripes.

Indeed, Stripes stand out as one of the prints consistently reinvented season after season, demonstrating remarkable +20% growth in FW’24 compared to FW’23. However, how Stripes are going to get adopted by actual consumers? According to Heuritech data, Stripes are a consistent riser, predicted to grow by 7% in Fall 2024 vs. 2023. While pinstripes have taken center stage with the resurgence of tailoring, designers are now placing their bets on thick stripes. It's noteworthy that London, across seasons, maintains the smallest representation rate for this print, while other fashion capitals approach a 4% representation rate, indicating a broader embrace of this trend elsewhere.

2. The FW '24 to Streetstyle pipeline

How are trends from last season are being worn on the street now? Let’s take a look at fur, related to the Mob Wife take over. Fur coats have become the quintessential trend of this aesthetic, embodying the opulence and grandeur associated with Mob Wives. Despite growing concerns over animal cruelty, which have become significantly more prevalent in society, our data shows a resurgence in their popularity in shows but most impressively on the streets: 9,1% of attendees looks in FW24 compared to 3,1% in FW23.

3. Thematic Trend Analysis

This season, three themes emerged, each reflecting a distinct ambivalence: doll-like femininity and darkness, heritage and modernity, and sophistication and comfort. These paradoxes were highlighted to underscore the complexity of contemporary fashion. Additionally, there was a notable emphasis on rich materials, adding depth and luxury to the collections. On our free report version, we focus on trends related to the Heritage Reimagined aesthetic. This trend embraces capes, dinner suits, sheath dresses, and luxurious Chanel-like bouclé tweed, ideal for channeling the strong and confident essence of Upper East Side 'ladies who lunch.'

Colors
The color palette for the Heritage Reimagined theme exudes sophistication through its selection of neutral tones. Cream and charcoal gray hues weave an understated narrative, allowing the focus to shift onto the elegant silhouettes themselves. These subtly nuanced colors are intentionally chosen to align with the ideology of wealth whisper, where opulence speaks softly. Yet, amidst this restrained elegance, a burst of burgundy emerges as a bold statement. This pop of color serves to accentuate the concept of a darker, sexier modern interpretation of ladylike sophistication, inviting attention and intrigue.

Fabrics
Tweed undoubtedly reigns as the quintessential fabric of the Heritage Reimagined theme. We witnessed tweed matching sets take center stage, even at brands whose style typically veers away from the traditional ladylike aesthetic. However, amidst the structured tweed, there's also an infusion of softness. Silk emerges as a harmonizing counterpart, subtly minimizing the strictness inherent in the proper conservatory aesthetic. Lastly, cable knit unexpectedly made its presence felt within the theme, notably showcased in a matching set by Versace.

Prints
For the Heritage Reimagined thematic, FW24 didn't bring forth any experimentation with prints. Designers adhered to classic interpretations, favoring timeless checks and understated plain prints. For there's nothing quite as emblematic of exclusivity and sophistication as the enduring appeal of checks and plain prints.

Accessories
- Top Handle Bags: The quintessential "lady bag," remained a favorite, with a focus on small, embellished designs.
- Pointy Toe Pumps: Made a significant comeback, with a 9% growth, adding a touch of elegance to any outfit.
- Round Toe Mary Janes: Blended traditional and youthful elements, showing a steady 1% growth.

4. Star Trends

The FW '24 Women's Fashion Weeks report acknowledges that certain trends go beyond specific themes and aesthetics. In this section, we explore such pervasive trends that are reflected across different atmospheres we have identified. It is crucial to understand the nuanced variations to effectively tailor a theme to a brand's DNA and its target consumer. Leopard, leather skirts, bodycon mini dresses, off-shoulder dresses and patent leather were the star trends of the season, meaning they were present in nearly every runway show, spotted in all of our key themes. On the free version of the report we focus on Leopard, forecasted to experience a +10% increase compared to FW’23 on our panels making it a Comeback trend, adopted by all mainstream & trendy consumers. From adorning coats to skirts, blouses, dresses and accessories the leopard print made a powerful statement which depicts an untamed elegance that defines this captivating trend.

5. Trend Screening

The FW '24 Women's Fashion Weeks report recognizes that fashion weeks and their shows serve as important sources of inspiration and innovation. However, it is important to note that not all trends that excite creators are immediately embraced by the general public. To provide a deeper understanding of how these trends fare among consumers, we offer a novel analysis approach that examines the "real" behavior of trends that are widely showcased on the catwalks. Our color trend screening shows that red emerges as the market leader, demonstrating significant forecasted growth and runway visibility. It appears to be the only safe and vibrant pop of color to enhance the neutral color palette.
