Capri pants have made a major comeback in the past year. These pants bring to mind a sense of nostalgia for many, as it lives in memory as a popular children’s garment during the late 90s and early 2000s. In the past, capris were often word loose, in near-gaucho fashion, but in 2021, trendsetters are opting for form-fitting, legging silhouettes.

And a few inches can make all the difference in silhouette. Capris seem to be the lovechild of the popular cycling shorts and the beloved leggings: they’re just right. An outfit can be made fresh and surprising with a slightly shorter hem, and we noticed a range of styling methods with capris over the past year.
How you can materialize your commitments towards sustainability?
Independent designers such as Helena Manzano, Charlotte Knowles, Gauntlett Cheng, and DAISY played around with capris in their recent Spring/Summer collections, experimenting with different fabrics and outfit pairings to breathe new life in the 2000s trend. Even major designers tested the trend: Chanel presented a digital version of the garment in their Chanel 2021 Resort collection. So this Fall 2021, we can be sure to see capris on the runways and streets, particularly among North American women.
The trend to include in 2021 collections
But how can collection planners be sure to appease their customers’ style tastes for this garment? The favorite capri-style will be similar to the popular cycling short trend, which is predicted to rise +6% in visibility among US women in Fall 2021. Cycling shorts’ universal appeal is good news for the legging version cut directly below the knee for capris: we can consider this as the base for many outfits to come. Capris can be paired with strappy sandals and a ribbed-knit tank for a summer look, with a hoodie and sneakers to go sporty, or even with a heeled shoe and a blazer to create a chic yet casual look.
This Fall 2021, we can expect to see capris on the streets and the screens. Trend forecasting allows brands and retailers to gain a macro perspective of trend behavior months in advance, to be sure to give their customers what they want.
